By mastering these Autofill techniques, you can significantly speed up your data entry and ensure consistency across your Excel worksheets.
Autofill in Excel is a powerful feature that allows you to quickly fill cells with repetitive or sequential data. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Autofill effectively:
Basic Autofill
Simple Fill Series:
Enter the starting value in a cell (e.g., “1” in cell A1).
Click on the fill handle (a small square at the bottom right corner of the cell).
Drag the fill handle down or across to fill the cells with sequential numbers (e.g., 1, 2, 3,…).
Fill with Text:
Enter a text value (e.g., “Monday”) in a cell.
Click and drag the fill handle. Excel will automatically continue the sequence (e.g., “Tuesday”, “Wednesday”, etc.).
You can use this feature with any type of sequential values whether formulas, days of the week, months etc. Give it a try and check out the video above too.
