Feel free to link to this page.<\/p>\n<h2>WHAT IS NEW IN WINDOWS 11<\/h2>\n<p>There are at least 35 new features in Windows 11, most of which have been covered in the tutorial above. The main new features are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a revamped UI<\/li>\n<li>new multitasking options<\/li>\n<li>virtual desktops<\/li>\n<li>better memory management system<\/li>\n<li>integrated Teams chat<\/li>\n<li>enhanced gaming<\/li>\n<li>widgets, Android apps,<\/li>\n<li>restructured Settings menu.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>LOGGING IN<\/h2>\n<p>Once your reboot the computer, <b>enter your username<\/b> and <b>password<\/b>. If someone else is already logged in, click on <b>Switch Accounts<\/b> option from the bottom left.<\/p>\n<h2>THE WINDOWS TASKBAR<\/h2>\n<p>The Taskbar contains key options for using the operating system such as the Start Menu, Windows Search, Virtual Desktops, Windows Explorer access and certain programs. On the right side, it lists applications currently running in the background along with the Action Center.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>The Start Menu<\/b> allows you to access all the programs in the computer.<\/li>\n<li><b>Search<\/b> allows to search for a program, settings or files.<\/li>\n<li><b>Desktops<\/b> allows to create a new virtual desktop or switch between desktops.<\/li>\n<li><b>File<\/b> <b>Explorer<\/b> allows access to files stored in the computer.<\/li>\n<li>The <b>Widgets<\/b> icon displays various updates such as weather, news etc.<\/li>\n<li><b>Teams<\/b> <b>Chat<\/b> enables you to chat and video conference with anyone.<\/li>\n<li><b>Edge<\/b> is the default browser for Windows 11.<\/li>\n<li>To customize the taskbar settings, right <b>click on the Taskbar<\/b> and select <b>Taskbar Settings<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>THE START MENU<\/h2>\n<p>The Windows 11 Start Menu incorporates the features of the Windows 10 but on a different position. The location can be changed by customizing the Taskbar Settings.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <b>Windows Logo<\/b> and note the search functionality. <b>To locate an app<\/b>, simply <b>start typing<\/b> or click on <b>All apps<\/b> button locate your app.<\/li>\n<li><b>To add an application to Start menu<\/b>, click on <b>All App<\/b>s, locate the application, and then <b>right click<\/b> selecting <b>Pin to Start<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li><b>To remove an App<\/b> from the tiles area, <b>right click<\/b> on it and choose <b>Unpin<\/b>.\u2026<\/li>\n<li>To access the <b>Start Menu Quick Options<\/b>, <b>right click<\/b> on the Start Menu icon.<\/li>\n<li>To further <b>customize the Start Menu<\/b>, click on <b>Start<\/b> \/ <b>Settings<\/b> \/ <b>Personalization<\/b> \/ and then <b>Start<\/b>. <em>Note the other options to customize the Background, Colors, Lock Screen, Themes etc.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Tip<\/b>: Press the <b>Windows key<\/b> to access the Start Menu without clicking.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>To <b>pin apps to the Taskbar<\/b>, click <b>Start<\/b> \/ <b>All Apps<\/b> or search for the app, then right click and select <b>Pin to Taskbar<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li><b>To access key areas of managing Windows<\/b>, <b>right click<\/b> on the Windows icon and select one of the options.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>THE WINDOWS DESKTOP<\/h2>\n<p>The desktop allows you to launch applications or access files from the main desktop area.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To <b>add a program to the desktop<\/b>, click on the <b>Start Menu<\/b> &gt; <b>All Programs<\/b> &gt; Drag the program icon to the desktop.<\/li>\n<li>To <b>remove<\/b> the icon from the desktop, simply press <b>delete<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>To <b>change desktop settings<\/b>, <b>right click<\/b> anywhere where there are no icons and then select <b>View<\/b> and use one of the settings such as icon size etc.<\/li>\n<li>To further <b>customize<\/b> the desktop, <b>right click<\/b> where there are no icons and select <b>Personalize<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>To <b>create new virtual desktops<\/b>, click on the <b>Desktops<\/b> icon on the Taskbar, and select <b>new desktop<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>LAUNCHING APPLICATIONS IN WINDOWS 11<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>To launch an application, click on the icon on the Taskbar once.<\/li>\n<li>To launch an app from the desktop, doubleclick on the app\u2019s icon.<\/li>\n<li>To launch an application from the Start Menu, locate the application and click on it once.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>WORKING WITH ACTIVE APPLICATIONS<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>To <b>close<\/b> the opened application, <b>click on the X<\/b> icon on the top right of the application bar.<\/li>\n<li>To <b>minimize<\/b> the application, click on the minimize icon <b>\u2013<\/b> sign on the application bar.<\/li>\n<li>To <b>resize<\/b> the application window, click on the <b>resize<\/b> icon. Also note the various desktop layouts if you hold the mouse on the resize icon of the application bar. To select a position, simply click on it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>SWITCHING BETWEEN OPEN APPLICATIONS<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold the <b>ALT key<\/b> and press <b>TAB<\/b> and select the application.<\/li>\n<li>To switch between active apps, click on the application icon on the taskbar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>SEARCHING USING THE SEARCH ICON OR KEYSTROKE<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the <b>Windows Key<\/b> on the keyboard or click on the <b>Search<\/b> icon and <b>start typing<\/b> e.g. <em>Word<\/em>, or Settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>ACCESSIG FILES \/ USING THE IMPROVED FILE EXPLORER<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <b>File Explorer<\/b> icon on the Taskbar.<\/li>\n<li>Note the various options on the left panel:\n<ul>\n<li><b>Quick Access<\/b> enables you to access recently accessed files and folder. To add a folder to Quick Access panel on the left, right click on the folder and select Pin to Quick access.<\/li>\n<li><b>Desktop<\/b> displays the items on the main desktop.<\/li>\n<li><b>Documents<\/b> displays folders and subfolders of your files under the account.<\/li>\n<li><b>Pictures<\/b> is a shortcut to Pictures<\/li>\n<li><b>This PC<\/b> shows al the devices connected to the PC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>To change the default view<\/b> of how the files show up, click on <b>View<\/b> and select the desired view under the layout area (e.g. List).<\/li>\n<li><b>To add a new file or folder<\/b>, click on <b>New<\/b> on the top left bar.<\/li>\n<li><b>To copy files or folders<\/b>, <b>right click<\/b> on the object selecting copy, then go to the new location and right click and press the Paste<\/li>\n<li><b>To create a .zip file<\/b>, select a folder or a bunch of files, <b>right click<\/b> and select <b>Compress to Zip<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>If you use a wired connection, simply plugin the network cable.<\/li>\n<li>If you use a <strong>WIFI<\/strong> connection, click <strong>Connections<\/strong> icon on the Taskbar &gt; click on the <strong>WIFI<\/strong> icon and make sure it is selected in Blue, then <strong>click<\/strong> <strong>on<\/strong> <strong>Manage WIFI<\/strong> <strong>Select your WIFI<\/strong> and <strong>enter the WIFI passphrase<\/strong>. Another option is to search for WIFI settings and then select Show Available networks.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>BROWSING THE INTERNET USING MICROSOT EDGE<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <b>Microsoft Edge<\/b> icon on the Taskbar.<\/li>\n<li>Click through the prompts (if prompted)<\/li>\n<li><b>Type the URL<\/b> of the site you want to visit in the address bar and press enter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>LOGGING OUT OR SHUTTING DOWN THE COMPUTER<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>To <strong>logout<\/strong>, click on <strong>Start<\/strong> &gt; <strong>click on your username<\/strong> &gt; select <strong>Sign out.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>To <strong>lock the computer<\/strong>, click on <strong>Start<\/strong> &gt; <strong>click on your username<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Lock<\/strong> or use <strong>Windows Key + L<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>To <strong>shutdown the computer<\/strong>, click on <strong>Start<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Power<\/strong> and then select <strong>Shutdown<\/strong>, or Reboot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>USING THE WINDOWS STORE<\/h2>\n<p>Like Google Play and Apple Store, Windows 10 offers the options for downloading apps that can be used across multiple devices.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the <b>Windows key<\/b> on the keyboard and type <b>Store<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Open Windows Store and pick the app that you want like Apple\/Android.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>MODIFYING WINDOWS SETTINGS<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <strong>Search<\/strong> icon (or press the Windows key), then type <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Browse through the various categories of settings<\/strong> on the left. Note you can also search for a particular setting on the left panel. E.g. wallpaper.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>PERSONALIZING THE LOOK AND FEEL OF WINDOWS 11<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Right click<\/b> on the desktop and choose <b>Personalize<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Choose from one of the themes or backgrounds you like. This option is also in Settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CHANGING THE FONT SIZE<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Right click on the desktop and choose <strong>Display Settings.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to <b>Scale and Layout<\/b> section and change the scale %.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CONNECTING TO A PROJECTOR OR A SECONDARY SCREEN<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the <b>Windows Key + P<\/b> choose Project).<\/li>\n<li>Choose <b>Duplicate<\/b> (<em>when connecting to a projector<\/em>); <b>Extended<\/b> (t<em>wo monitors<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>PROJECTING TO THIS PC FROM A MOBILE DEVICE<\/h2>\n<p>This allows Windows devices that support Miracast or Android devices to connect to your Windows 11 PC. Note, both devices must be on the same WIFI network.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on Search icon &gt; <b>Projection<\/b> &gt; Change settings to: Available from Anywhere &gt; Ask every time a connection is requested and Pin to Always.<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u201c<b>Launch the Connect App to Project to this PC<\/b>\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>UPDATING YOUR COMPUTER WITH THE LATEST UPDATES<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <b>Search<\/b> &gt; <b>Windows Updates<\/b> &gt; <b>Check for Updates<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Install the updates. Note you can change the settings under Advanced options.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>USING THE WINDOWS SNAP LAYOUT FEATURE<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Maximize the application and drag the title bar to the top of the screen around the screen until you see the desired layout. Note you can also hold the mouse on the Window resize icon on the top right (to left of x icon) and select one of the layouts.<\/li>\n<li>Resize App to Half Screen: <b>Windows Key + R<\/b> or Windows Key + L (left).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>USING THE STICKY NOTES<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Windows Key and type Sticky Notes. <em>(You can also choose to pin this application to the taskbar by right clicking on it)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Start writing on the note.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>USING THE SNIPPING TOOL<\/h2>\n<p>This is useful if you want to send part of a screenshot to someone via email, etc.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Windows Key and type Snipping tool.<\/li>\n<li>Click on New \/ Select a portion of the screen you want to capture.<\/li>\n<li>Choose Save to save the captured image or copy and paste the image.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CHANGING THE DEFAULT PRINTER<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the <b>Windows key<\/b> or type <b>Printers<\/b> in the search area in the Taskbar<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down and <b>unselect \u201cLet Windows manage my default printer\u201d<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the printer you want to set as the default, click on Set as Default.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>BACKING UP THE FILES<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Use OneDrive or an external drive to backup your files.<\/li>\n<li>Click <b>Search<\/b> &gt; Windows Backup to configure the settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CHANGING THE WINDOWS PASSWORD<\/h2>\n<p><em>Updates are typically installed automatically. You can check also manually:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click <b>Search<\/b> &gt; <b>search for Password<\/b> &gt; Click on <b>Password<\/b> &gt; Click on <b>Change<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Option 2: Press <b>CTRL+ALT+Del<\/b> and select <b>Change Password<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>SCANNING YOUR COMPUTER FOR VIRUSES AND MALWARE<\/h2>\n<p><em>Windows 1<\/em><em>1<\/em><em> comes with built-in Antivirus protection called: Windows Defender. <\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the <b>Windows Key<\/b> and type: <b>Windows Security<\/b> &gt; <b>Virus and Thread protection<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Click on <b>Scan Now<\/b> and\/or customize the settings<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>USING THE TASK MANAGER TO TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <b>Search<\/b>, type <b>Task Manager<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Click on <b>More Details<\/b> and note the apps running in the background and how much CPU and Memory they are using. These indicators can be used to identify problematic apps in your PC. Note also the other tabs on the top such as Performance (<em>Resource Monitor<\/em>), Startup etc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>IDENTIFYING AND REMOVING UNNECESSARY APPS<\/h2>\n<p><em>Use this with caution. It is best to take note of what apps you have when you first get a computer and then remove any unnecessary ones later on. <\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <b>Windows Key<\/b> and search for: <b>Add or Remove Programs<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Click on the application properties (three dots on the right) and select<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CUSTOMIZING THE PRIVACY SETTINGS IN WINDOWS 10<\/h2>\n<p><em>By default, Windows 1<\/em><em>1<\/em><em> collects a lot of data from browsing, online purchases, words you say or type in order to personalize your experience similar to Android and iOS.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <b>Start<\/b> &gt; <b>Settings<\/b> &gt; <b>Privacy Settings<\/b> on the left. Then go through each item on the left such as location, camera, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Under General: <em>What you write; <\/em>Location: <em>Off; <\/em>Speech and Inking: <em>Unless you like to use Cortana, turn it all off<\/em>. Feedback and diagnostics: <em>Diagnostic and usage data<\/em>: Basic.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>RESETTING THE COMPUTER FROM MALWARE OR TO SELL IT<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Search &gt; <b>Reset this PC<\/b><\/li>\n<li>To fix problems without resetting it, select the option \u201cFix problems without resetting\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>To go back to a previous date and time (helpful in case of malware) choose<b> Go Back<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li><b>To reset the computer keeping the files or to sell it<\/b>, select <b>Reset this PC<\/b>. Use this with caution of course.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>ACCESSING THE ACTION CENTER<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <b>action Center<\/b> icon on the far right of the Taskbar.<\/li>\n<li>Note you can also add new icons by clicking on the pen icon.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>ADDING AND CUSTOMIZING WIDGETS<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <b>Widgets<\/b> icon<\/li>\n<li>Click on <b>Add Widgets<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Relocate the widgets as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CUSTOMIZING QUICK SETTINGS<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <b>Quick<\/b> <b>Settings<\/b> Icon on the far right of the toolbar first icon to the left of the time.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the little pen<\/li>\n<li>Click on Add and select the options you prefer. Click Done when finished.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>CONTROLLING SOUND SETTINGS<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Right click on the <b>Sounds<\/b> icon on the Taskbar (far right) and select <b>SoundMixer<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Adjust the settings as needed. Note they are now application specific.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>USING FOCUS ASSIST<\/h2>\n<p>Focus Assist is a new tool where you can control what alerts you will receive so that you can focus on tasks at hand.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the <b>Quick Settings<\/b> Icon on the far right of the toolbar first icon to the left of the time.<\/li>\n<li>Click to toggle the <b>FocusAssist<\/b> Additional settings are available under Settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>ENABLING THE GAMING MODE<\/h2>\n<p>When you use Game Mode, Windows prioritizes your gaming experience.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <strong>Search<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Gaming<\/strong> <strong>Mode<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Toggle the <strong>On<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>LAUNCHING THE WINDOWS TERMINAL<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <strong>Search<\/strong> and type <strong>Command<\/strong> <strong>Prompt<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>To launch the Windows Terminal, click on Search and type <strong>Windows<\/strong> <strong>Terminal<\/strong>.
